What is it with cats?

It’s 4.30 am!

I wish I was a minor planet instead of the centre of the flipping universe. Felix and Guiness think my nose is as close to the centre as they can get and it’s no holds barred to be in the centre. Stereo purring and two sets of whiskers tickling my nose all added to by Tinker who is in the room somewhere as I can hear him, he had found one of those scrunchy plastic bags on my desk and decided that’s where he would sleep, except he is fidgeting. I unearth myself from under the cats, scoop up Tinker and remove the noisy bag leaving him a silent towel to sleep on!  Problem one solved.

I had recently thought sleeping in a sleeping bag might guarantee me a space on my bed at night, how wrong could I be? The bed is now empty and there is a row of cats on the sleeping bag leaving me if I’m lucky with a tiny tube down the edge with the zip. An Egyptian mummy would have more room. Before I get back into bed, in desperation, I unzip the bag, move the cats, and unfold it, now I have a duvet again and a fighting chance of a bit of bed. I climb in to the sound of Tinker who is now snoring loudly from his silent towel and the fight to be closest to me resumes. Felix wins and Guiness retreats to my knees, why?? There is all that empty bed and he must lay on my knees !

This is either the end of a very long day or the start of the next. How I wish I could freeze time and get on unhindered for a couple of days.

Yesterday started with the indecisive breakfast orders from eight cats, number 9 ( Blackie ) usually knows what he wants but is busy somewhere else and will have to be found later. The other eight not only can’t decide what they want but also where they want to eat it....... 8 assorted bowls are filled with 8 different types and flavours of food, ranging from Tesco’s finest Christmas dinner to a sardine from a freshly opened tin (the last one from yesterday’s tin simply won’t do.) I shove, sorry serve a bowl to each cat and instantly they all suspiciously sniff the contents then change places. After 5 minutes half of each bowl has been eaten and the biscuits suitably strewn across the work surface. The cats now queue up to use the litter tray and then ask to be let out of the door, the cat flap it seems is only for emergencies, and whatever happened to using the great outdoors for a wee?. I open the door to a gale force wind and hang on for dear life in danger of being swept away while they stand half in and half out surveying the weather and working out their next move.

I half close the door to hurry up the decision making process, in or out, they choose and I eventually get the door closed again.

It now appears to be 5.45 am. Just perhaps I could get a bit more sleep !!

my friends and I.....
