Strudelosa

This is in fact a giant samosa masquerading as a Strudel. Tea was running late one day and I had planned to make samosas to go with a curry. faced with a piece of puff pastry and way too much filling I became creative. The creation was liked so I named it and have been making them ever since. so now we have a Strudelosa which resembles a Strudel and is actually a giant overstuffed Samosa.
RECIPE
400gm Chicken Mince
1 onion
1 tbsp Soy sauce
1 tbsp tomato puree
1 stock cube
Salt and pepper to taste
Curry powder to taste, ( optional )
A little water.
1 pack of puff pastry
1. Chop the onion and fry in a little oil. Add a teaspoon of brown sugar to caramelise as it cooks.
2. Add the mince and stir till all browned.
3. Add soy sauce, tomato puree, stock cube, salt, pepper and curry powder.
4. Stir and add a little water. Cook for 15 minutes on a low heat with a lid on the pan. Keep checking the pan is not drying out and add a little more water if necessary.
5. Turn off Heat.
6. Pre heat an oven to 180 degrees C
7. Lay out pastry on a baking sheet, put mince in strip across middle leaving top and bottom to flap over. ( the mince should be moist but not full of liquid or the pastry will become soggy. )
8. Bring top of pastry to middle and bottom to middle and seal two edges together, also seal ends together. Put small slits in top of Strudelosa to allow steam to escape while cooking.
9. Bake for 15 to 20 minutes till golden brown then serve in slices.
ENJOY
